7 Things to Borrow the Elbert County Public Library, Other Than Books

Visit the library for all sorts of fun and unexpected perks!

We all know the Elbert County Public Library is the best place to borrow books, audiobooks and movies. But did you know there are some unique items available for local residents?

Just visit the Elbert County Public Library and ask for these items at the front desk:

1. LaunchPad Tablets

  • Several educational tablets are available with pre-loaded apps for different age groups.
  • Available at Elbert County Public Library and Bowman Library.
  • No holds, no renewals. 7 days maximum loan period.
  • An adult must be responsible for the care and use of the device. Damage or loss of the tablet will result in a replacement charge. See your librarian for complete details.

2. Georgia Park Passes

  • The Georgia Park Pass gives you free admission / parking at any of the Georgia State Parks. The Elbert County Public Library has one pass on loan for the local community. It checks out for one week, and can be renewed once. It cannot be placed on hold. Nearby Georgia State Parks include Richard B. Russell State Park (Elberton, GA), Watson Mill Bridge State Park (Comer, GA), and Victoria Bryant State Park (Royston, GA). This is a great way to explore the parks before purchasing your own annual park pass. Parking is usually $5 per visit, or $50 for an annual pass.
  • Discovery Backpack: The Discovery Backpack consists of a backpack with binoculars and three foldout, weatherproof guides: Georgia’s Trees; Georgia’s Wildlife; Georgia’s Trees and Wildflowers. 

3. Zoo Atlanta Tickets

The Zoo DVD / Zoo Pass will allow one adult and two guests free entrance into Zoo Atlanta in Atlanta, Georgia. To participate in this program, simply ask to rent the Zoo DVD. There is only one DVD available per library and you cannot place a hold on it. If the DVD is available, take it home and watch to learn more about the history of Zoo Atlanta and their animal service projects. This is an educational DVD and you'll get excited for your upcoming trip. After you finish watching the DVD, return it to the library to receive your special pass / coupon to visit the zoo for free within the next 28 days. The pass can only be redeemed once per year, per family. With a bit of flexibility and planning, this pass offers local residents a chance to experience a great zoo, save money and make memories with the family. Blackout dates apply and the pass cannot be used on these dates: January 1, January 18, February 15, April 5-9, May 31, July 4, September 6, October 11, November 25, December 25. Ask your librarian if the ZOO DVD is available to rent and start the process of redeeming your free passes to ZOO ATLANTA today!

4. Seeds "Little Free Seed Library"

Seasonal selection seeds will be available for free at the library. Spring collection starts on Thursday, April 6, 2023 with bean, cucumber, watermelon and cantaloupe seeds are available to pick up for free at the Elbert County Library for gardeners of all ages. Collect your seeds, try something new and grow something tasty for the dinner table this year. Summer and fall crop seeds such as turnip greens, collards, etc will be made available later in the growing season. 

5. eBooks

Free e-books are available through the Elbert County Public Library System via the Georgia Download Destination (GADD) / OverDrive.com or the Libby App.  The Elbert County Library also provides access to electronic reading material through E-Read Kids, Tumblebooks, Teen Book Cloud, and Tumble Math. You can access these resources online using the links which might require your library card number to login.

6. Sports Passes

Atlanta Hawks Basketball: The Elbert County Public Library System has a partnership with Georgia sports teams to offer free or reduced youth tickets.Children or youth (K-12) must read five books of any kind, but recommended topics include athletics, health, sportsmanship, basketball, sports history, etc. then visit checkitoutreading.com, fill out the form, and with the purchase of an adult ticket they receive a free youth ticket to one Hawks games. Vouchers for the free ticket will be released in October when the schedule is announced.

7. Attraction and Museum Passes

  • Atlanta Aquarium: Special discounts on memberships and special packages available through the aquarium website.
  • The Breman Jewish Heritage Museum: The Elbert County Public Library has a Family Pass available on loan. When checked out and taken to the Breman, the pass is good for four free general admission tickets to the museum (not valid for special events or exhibits). The Family Pass has a circulation period of seven days, may be renewed once, and cannot be placed on hold.
  • Center for Puppetry Arts: Come check out the Passport to Puppetry available at ECPL. The Passport admits four people to the World of Puppetry Museum OR a patron can
    receive a 25% discount on an All-Inclusive Ticket. By using the code LIBRARY, patrons may prepurchase their All-Inclusive ticket online in advance of their visit at www.puppet.org/buy-tickets. An All-Inclusive ticket is for one person and includes: a Family Series Performance, a Create-A-Puppet Workshop, and the admission to the Museum. The Passport to Puppetry has a circulation period of seven days, maybe renewed once, and cannot be put on hold.   • Macon Museum Pass: The Macon Museum Pass admits up to four (4) people to the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame, Museum of Arts and Sciences, and Tubman Museum. The Family Pass is for general admission only and is not valid for special events or exhibits. The Macon Museum Pass has a circulation period of seven days, may be renewed once, and holds are not allowed.
  • Go Fish Education Center: The Family Pass allows up to four (4) free admissions to the Center. The Family Pass has a circulation period of seven days, may be renewed once, and no holds are allowed

As you can see, the Elbert County Public Library is full of surprises and an excellent resource for families in our community. I encourage you to get your library card, take a trip to the library, and see what new things they have in store for you this week!
