Packing List for My Summer Beach Getaway

Hosted by Nickelodeon Hotels and Resorts Riviera Maya

By Amy PerezVelasco, Publisher of Macaroni Kid Elberton, GA June 2, 2022

Next week, I am boarding an airplane for the first time in a few years and heading off to Cancun, Mexico for a 4-day trip. I am so excited for this opportunity to (finally!!) travel again and get the chance to check out a brand-new Nickelodeon™ Hotels & Resorts in Riviera Maya. Yay! Even with all of my excitement, I couldn't forget about my normal pre-vacation checklist: research travel destination, find my passport, pack my suitcase, charge my camera batteries, and so on. But now that the trip date approaches, I am 100% ready to go and wanted to share my minimalist beach vacation packing list!

Must-Have Items for Beach Vacation

Since I am flying solo, I decided to pack light and only take two bags with me: a backpack (personal item) and small rolling suitcase (carry-on). If you're traveling by car, taking kids or more family members, you might need to bring an extra suitcase or checked baggage. But for this trip I have decided to try a "less is more" approach to enjoy the trip as much as possible.

Top 10 Beach Essentials
Must-have items for this summer beach vacation

  1. Sunglasses
  2. Bathing Suit
  3. Cover up or rash guard with SPF
  4. Sandals or flip flops
  5. Tank tops / shorts
  6. Sundress
  7. Beach Hat
  8. Underwear
  9. Pajamas
  10. Refillable water bottle

Travel / Personal Items
Some of these items are so obvious, but sometimes that's the easiest things to forget!

  1. Passport and/or Drivers License
  2. Booking Confirmation / Travel Itinerary
  3. Cell Phone and Charger
  4. Small Wallet with Cards and Cash
  5. Toiletries and Medications
  6. Toothbrush, Toothpaste, Hairbrush
  7. Sunscreen (travel size)
  8. Razor and Soap
  9. Headphones
  10. Camera, case, batteries
  11. Pen and notebook

Throughout the week, as I find more items that I need for my trip, I set them in a pile near my suitcase so I don't forget anything important. Some items I use every day, but my passport and extra pair of shoes can wait in the bag until I'm ready to go. Also, there are a few items that would be nice to have (beach towel, book, shampoo, etc.) but the hotel will provide them, or I can pick it up locally rather than bring on the airplane.

Do you have any big trips planned this year? Let me know what you think of my packing list!
