Laughing Our Way to the 'Paws of Fury' July 15 Premiere

Check out our funny pet jokes, an easy craft, the movie trailer and more!

I'm πŸ’― ready for a movie night!

Summer is here, the temperature is heating up, and vacation mode is ON! After several weeks of sweating it out, I'm highly motivated to find a way to entertain the kids INDOORS... preferably with the air conditioning on my face, a cold drink in my hand, and everyone sitting down for at least ONE hour. Is that too much to ask? πŸ˜‚

And then — BAM! My husband comes out of nowhere with a fun idea:

"Guess what? Movie theaters are open and Paws of Fury: The Legend of Hank is coming out — let's take the kids!"

The author received compensation for writing this article.  All thoughts and opinions expressed are her own.

OK, sounds interesting but I need to research it first. You know, I'm picky when it comes to family movies. I already have a mental checklist of criteria to ensure it’s something the whole family can enjoy. And it's pretty rare to find something that ticks all of the boxes, but let’s see…

A movie with a message

In Paws of Fury: The Legend of Hank, you'll meet Hank (the clumsy underdog) and Jimbo (the naturally resistant teacher), a mismatched pair and unlikely team of dog and cat.

When the village filled with cats comes under attack, everyone must look past their misconceptions and accept help from a new breed of hero. Hank shows determination to be a strong warrior, gains strength with help from his new friends, and learns a life lesson — bravery is more than fur deep!

Ultimately, the characters change and become more kind, patient, and cooperative than ever before. I just love that!

Paws of Fury: The Legend of Hank is a movie my whole family would enjoy! (FYI — My kids were laughing non-stop throughout the movie trailer, so that's a good start!).

I love that there is a nice mix of character-building morals, cute animals, fast-paced action, slapstick comedy, pop culture jokes, awesome scenery, and an all-star cast of voice actors and artists... I'm excited to check it out in theaters nationwide on Friday, July 15th.

Kids Art Project: DIY Paper Bag Puppets

Well, now the cat's out of the bag... my kids have seen the movie trailer a few times and they are very excited as they (im)patiently wait for the July 15 release.

Their excitement inspired me to get creative, bring out the art supplies, and put together a little activity (a.k.a. distraction) for us to do as a family. It's so easy, you can easily try it at home, too!

Art Project: Paper Bag Puppets

What you need:

  • Brown paper lunch bags
  • Markers, Crayons, colored pencils or washable paint (pick your favorite!)
  • 1-3 Pieces of construction paper (white, black, brown)
  • Glue stick
  • Scissors
  • Optional: Stickers, Googly Eyes / Wiggle Eyes, Pipe Cleaners, etc.

Instructions:

Draw two big eyes, a triangle nose, a cute mouth, and whiskers, then decorate to your heart's content. You may also cut construction paper into triangles (cat ears, dog tail), strips (dog ears), and ovals (hands, belly) and use the glue stick to attach to the sides of the bag. Allow time to dry.

This craft is open-ended so I provided each child with multiple brown bags to create a few different masterpieces and enjoyed watching how their projects turned out.

Funny pet jokes

Towards the end of the art project, my son recalled a funny dog joke from the day before. That inspired stage two of our activity — a comedy puppet show!

Here are the best pet jokes that we found while we waited for the paint to dry:

  1. What's the best way to keep a dog out of the street? - Put him in a barking lot.
  2. What do you call a cat that bowls? - An alley cat.
  3. How do fleas travel? - They itch-hike.
  4. What do cats eat for breakfast? - Mice Crispies
  5. What did the dog say when his tail got caught in the door? - "It won't be long now!"

And then, the stage was set. The puppets were ready. The jokes were golden. We had a good laugh, watched the movie trailer one last time, and promised to do it all again tomorrow.

As you may have guessed, my kids are already counting down the days until the movie comes out. And I'm happy to find a way to be entertained indoors, rain or shine! That way, the whole family is happy... and I finally get my break. See you on Friday, July 15th! Here are all the movie details:
