A Guide to Cherry Blossom Festivals in GA & SC

By Amy PerezVelasco - Macaroni Kid Elberton, GA March 6, 2024

Spring is the season of warmer weather, easter bunnies, and new beginnings. But it's also a great time to see Cherry Blossoms blooming all across the southeast. In March, you'l' find Cherry Blossom festivals at parks and gardens across Georgia, Alabama, South Carolina and beyond.

Viewing cherry blossoms can be a fun and enjoyable experience for kids and families, but the blooms only last a short while, so let's get right into the guide. Below you'll find the festivals around Georgia and beyond!

🌸 The Granite City Walking Trail

March-April 2023 // Elberton, GA

Did you know? We have 20+ Japanese cherry blossoms planted throughout the City of Elberton. This March, I invite you to go on a scavenger hunt to find these beautiful blooming trees along the walking trail at Sutton Park and in the neighborhoods surrounding Falling Creek. I found three trees in front of the Elberton Medical Center, one across from the Department of Driver Services at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church on Forest Drive. These blooms do not last long so they should be appreciated early in the year. See if you can spot the pink flowers before they go away. By the way, these trees were a gift from our Japanese Sister City: Mure-Cho, Japan.

🌸 Cherry Blossom Colorfest at Gibbs Gardens

Ball Ground, GA

Cherry blossoms are one of the delights of early spring that you can miss if you don’t pay close attention. Typically they flower during March or April when the Daffodils are blooming. With cool weather, the flowers will last for several weeks but a hot spell can cause them to quickly shed their delicate white petals. At the Gardens there are hundreds of Yoshino cherries, Prunus x yedoensis, the same ornamental cherry trees that bloom at the Tidal Basin in Washington, DC. Located in Ball Ground, Georgia, 107 miles from Elberton.

🌸 Cherry Blossom Festival

Irmo, SC

The annual Cherry Blossom Festival of Irmo, SC honors the colorful blooms of cherry blossoms. In 2001, six Yoshino Cherry Trees were planted in the park and showcase an amazing bloom at their peak in late March. The family-friendly festival features picnics, blossom-viewing, outdoor art, handcrafted artwork, and more. Located at Irmo Town Park in Irmo, South Carolina near Columbia, 116 mi. from Elberton.
