Free Homeschool or Preschool Curriculum Guide - Macaroni KID Elberton

My collection of educational resources for after school, homeschool, or preschool

By Amy PerezVelasco - Macaroni Kid Elberton, GA July 11, 2024

When I was looking for homeschool curriculum, I saw a lot of expensive materials and sets. Because I'm teaching preschool and kindergarten to my children, I decided to prioritize FREE online materials and then add extracurricular activities and field trips for a well-rounded approach. This also gives me time to research the best curriculum for their learning style on my budget.

I am creating a robust guide to homeschooling, but in the meantime I wanted to share these FREE curriculum options that have helped me along the way.

 FREE HOMESCHOOL CURRICULUM

A free curriculum usually provides links, activities, videos and print outs for each day of your homeschool. Or it might be a printable PDF that you use as workbook with your child. You may acquire other textbooks, toys, and supplemental memberships to supplement as you go. It's a great way to get started without breaking the bank. It's free and you can start anytime. Here are my favorites right now:

  • Easy Peasy All-In-One Homeschool - Pre-K to 12th grade / grade level or subject based - art, bible, computer, language, history, language arts, science and more.
  • The Good and the Beautiful - K-8th Grade - Their language arts and math curriculum is available as a FREE download - a great resource to test out the curriculum before you buy anything and they sell other subjects on their website as well.
  • Mom Delights - K-3rd Grade phonics - a homeschooling mom with 15 kids shares her tips and tricks, plus a free downloadable phonics curriculum for young readers (PDF download)
  • Discovery K12 - Pre-K to 12th grade / free student login for daily worksheets and videos - language arts, reading/literature, math, science, history/social studies, visual/performing arts, and physical education (similar to Easy Peasy but it's behind a login to help you track progress)
  • Under The Home - K - 5th grade Charlotte Mason inspired - art, music, poetry, writing, phonics, reading, history, studio art, prose, geography

Once I started using educational games for homeschool, my daughter became more interested in math.

  • Khan Academy - Pre-K - College Early math for kindergarten and beyond. Offers practice exercises, videos, and learning console with reward system - fun and interesting STEM resource - math, engineering, computing, coding, arts, humanities, economics, finance, test prep lessons (100% FREE / NO ADS)
  • ABCYa - Pre-K to 6th grade+ Educational games and common code activities by grade and subject  - letters, numbers, holiday, strategy, skill (contains ads)
  • Prodigy Math - 1st - 8th grade Adventure RPG game where you answer math questions to defeat enemies. (optional in-game purchases)

These free online curriculum resources can help you start homeschooling with very little investment. You may need to print out worksheets or find extra activities for variety. Watch for your child's strengths and weaknesses and various ways to engage them. I was really surprised by the simple lesson plans and it allowed me to focus on what what subject my daughter enjoys most.

 Good luck and have fun!
